Town unveils first public art installation

May 31, 2022 – Today, the Town of Caledon announced its first public art installation located on the Queen St. Bridge underpass in Downtown Bolton. Public art is just one of the initiatives included in the Town’s Downtown Bolton Revitalization Plan.

This underpass mural marks the first step in the Town’s Public Art program which formally launches later this year.

“Public art adds enormous value to the downtown core by providing a unique downtown experience and enhancing our public spaces in an accessible way,” said Caledon Mayor Allan Thompson.

The mural was designed and painted by Blaze Wiradharma of Blazeworks Art and Visual Communications. Wiradharma is a sought-after muralist with well-known projects in both Collingwood and Harriston.

The design was completed in partnership with the members of the Downtown Bolton Revitalization Task Force. The Task Force is comprised of members of the BIA, Chamber of Commerce, downtown business owners, residents and community-minded individuals all working together to implement the Downtown Bolton Revitalization Plan.

This inaugural mural was completed in anticipation of the Downtown Bolton Bi-Centennial event happening this weekend, June 4 – 5, 2022. The mural can be viewed up-close by walking along the Humber River Heritage Trail. The next phase of the program will invite local artists to take part in future public art opportunities across Caledon.
