- March 6, 2025: President Donald Trump granted temporary tariff exemptions for Canadian and Mexican goods covered by the North American trade agreement known as USMCA until April
Upcoming: March 12, 2025: The United States is set to impose a 25% tariff on steel and aluminum imports from all countries, including Canada and Mexico
Canadian Tariffs on American Goods
In response, Canada implemented 25% tariffs on $30 billion worth of U.S. goods starting March 4, 2025, with plans to expand these tariffs to $125 billion in imports.
The Government of Canada has issued a notice of intent to implement a second round of tariffs, and is seeking views on imposing counter-tariffs on $125 billion in imports of additional goods, subject to a 21-day comment period prior to implementation.
