Town of Caledon's Economic Development team connects with Canadian medical students studying in Ireland to support long-term physician recruitment and access to primary care.
The Town of Caledon is strengthening its physician recruitment efforts through international outreach, connecting with Canadian medical students studying in Ireland to explore future opportunities to practise medicine in Caledon, Ontario.
As part of the Town's Physician Recruitment and Retention Program, Caledon's Economic Development team attended the CaSPR 4th Annual Canadian Medical Student Repatriation Expo in Ireland. The two-day event brought together more than 300 medical learners and provided an opportunity for the Town to build relationships with future physicians interested in returning to Canada.
With approximately 1,300 Canadian medical learners studying in Ireland, the event offered an opportunity to introduce Caledon's growing community, highlight local healthcare needs and explore potential pathways for clinical electives, observerships and future medical careers.
Connecting with Canadian Medical Students in Ireland
Throughout the expo, Caledon's team connected with more than 80 medical learners from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Trinity College Dublin, University of Limerick and University of Galway, including students with personal connections to Caledon.
Creating Pathways to Caledon
A key objective of the mission was to establish relationships that could support future educational and professional opportunities.
The Town is exploring ways to connect interested medical learners with opportunities for clinical electives and observerships in Caledon, working with healthcare partners and medical professionals.
These experiences could help students become familiar with the community, establish professional connections and consider Caledon as a future location to practise medicine.
Supporting Healthcare Access in a Growing Community
As Caledon continues to grow, attracting and retaining family physicians remains an important priority.
Through its Physician Recruitment and Retention Program, the Town is taking a proactive approach to supporting primary care access by promoting opportunities for physicians, building partnerships and connecting with medical professionals domestically and internationally.
Participation in the Ireland expo complements these local recruitment efforts and helps position Caledon as an attractive community for physicians looking to establish their careers.
Looking Ahead
The connections established in Ireland provide a foundation for continued engagement with medical learners interested in returning to Canada.
The Economic Development team will continue strengthening these relationships, sharing information about practising in Caledon and working with healthcare partners to support future recruitment initiatives.

Caledon continues to demonstrate strong investment momentum, with Mars Canada advancing significant upgrades across its Bolton facilities as part of a broader multi-year investment in Ontario.
The investment will enhance production capacity, modernize operations, and support sustainability improvements across Mars’ manufacturing network. In Bolton, upgrades to both the Pet Nutrition and Food & Nutrition facilities are improving efficiency, increasing output, and reducing environmental impact—reinforcing Caledon’s role as a hub for advanced manufacturing and food processing.
For Caledon, this expansion represents more than infrastructure investment. It reflects continued confidence from a globally recognized company in the municipality’s strategic location, access to major transportation networks, and proximity to a skilled regional workforce.
Mars’ presence in Caledon contributes to a strong and diverse industrial base, supporting local employment and strengthening supply chain activity across the region. Investments like this also align with Caledon’s broader economic development priorities, including supporting business retention and expansion, attracting new investment, and building a resilient local economy.
As global companies continue to invest and grow in Caledon, the municipality remains focused on creating a competitive environment for business supported by available employment lands, infrastructure planning, and business-friendly services.
